My first interaction with this sweet couple was when Josh called me inquiring about photographing the proposal. I had never met him or his soon to be fiancee. But his fun and sweet momma followed me on instagram and insisted he call me. He tells me his plans and we decide to meet up so I can tell him where to propose so I can be sure and get her reaction.
This my friends was the scariest thing. We live in a super small town and I just knew someone would see us riding around together and we would have to tell Alicia what was up and spoil the surprise. We laugh now about how uneasy that made me. To my relief no one saw us and the surprise was a go. Josh was so super nervous. I honestly wasn’t sure if he could wait. We get it all together and our plan is in motion. Josh would tell Alicia he wanted to take her hunting to a place the farm owner had told him about. This all works fine as I am hiding in the truck the farm owner is driving up to where they should be waiting for us. The farm dog decides to run toward the couple. The owners wife is yelling at the dog and then chasing after it. Luckily Alicia thought it was all strange but still had no idea. So Josh waiting for my signal goes to one knee and asks his love to become his wife. Alicia was so overcome with emotion and so ready to marry this man she loved. Of course as any good southern girl would do she had to call her Daddy. Or as Alicia calls him Diddy. It was the sweetest day and to be a part of something so special was just magical for me.
You see these two started their love story in 8th grade. They would date off and on in high school. By the time Alicia would head off to college they had gone their separate ways.
Wouldn’t that be sad if that was where the story ended. But God is amazing and his timing is always right. Alicia would come home from school and they would run into each other again. In that moment Josh knew he couldnt let her get away again. Alicia tells me from that moment on she has lived her real life fairy tale. Ladies fairy tales aren’t glass slippers or ball gowns. Fairy tales are finding the one God set aside just for you. The one that puts your needs before his own and loves you with every part of who he is.
I can tell you from meeting Josh and Alicia I have never met a couple that was so sweetly in love and considerate of each other. Josh’s family was with Alicia every step of the way to make sure she had the most precious and beautiful wedding day. Her Mom was unable to be there and Josh’s Mom and sister made sure they were with her at all those crucial beautiful moments a bride has on her wedding day. It was all about Josh and Alicia. Friends and family made sure of that. It was a day they both had waited so long for. A day that they waited patiently for God to set in motion.
Moments like these. Couples like this. Love that shines. These are all reasons I am constantly drawn to photograph weddings. To see God work in couples lives and bring them together to better their lives, their experiences and their outlook. I just cant imagine not being a part of preserving that for generations to come.
